Races Past: September 1st, 1990
Look out history fans, it's last Saturday
night all over again, but 17 years ago! Lots of cars were on hand for
the first race of the last month of the 1990 season, with five heat
races and a "C" main for the figure-eights. Surprisingly, the '87and '88
champion Gary McAlister ended up in the C-main, but opted for the move
up, and turned over what must have been a fairly easy victory to
J.R.Sundholm. "Psycho" Ron Steltz took the B-main in his red Chevelle,
and top spot for the "A" went to the "one-armed bandit" Quentin Boreson
and his Dart. F.E.A.R. was back again for a non-point LABOR DAY event,in
which 24 cars took place. Dashes went to new driver Lyle Funden, and
Richard Pimms in his ever-present '63 Galaxie, a car that was due to be
campaigned clear into the new millenium! Mr. Boreson picked up another
A-main, with Arnold Freshour taking the "B" in his Nova.
In F.E.A.R. news, elections were to be
held on the 11th during the general membership meeting at Alfys in
Lynnwood, season championships would be the 15th, and the week-end of
the 22nd it was off to South-sound for camping, partying, and racing
(yes, in that order)! October 6th was slated for the Stateline, Idaho
fall-nationals, with $1000 to win. Here's the second -half point totals
as of 9-1-1990, then it's back to 2007! Tom Claibourn, F.E.A.R.
historian.
