2008 Figure Eight Running Rules

Super Figure Eight

The black flag, or a warning of, will be thrown by the track officials for the following:

A. Deliberately dumping another car.

B. Ramming another car into a dangerous situation or in the corners.

C. Using the car in front for brakes.

D. A car in any groove will be allowed to maintain its groove without being shoved out.

E. The groove must be cleared before changing.

F. Dangerous or erratic driving, excessive groove changing that interferes with another car, and cutting or chopping another car off.

G. Failure to heed flags.

H. A car being lapped shall not impede cars passing. Subject to flagging.

I. Action will be taken to correct poor driving practices.

J. Track officials will change starting positions of obvious “sand bagging”. If a car runs one half second (0.5) faster in a competitive lap than his/her time in lap the driver and/or car may be penalized.

Stinger 8

Races will be run in opposite direction as Super Eights

Heats are straight up.

Mains are 2 bumps and a dump. Meaning a car that is following may dump a car in front but only after making contact (bumping not ramming) 2 times. Not making contact 2 times will result in a black flag/stop and go.

Hot Lapping

A. CARS APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTH TURN HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY! Failure to yield the right of way or rough driving will result in disciplinary action.

B. Hot lapping will be at the discretion of the racetrack.

Flags & Line-ups

A. Official Flags:
WHITE One lap to go
GREEN Start of RACE
RED DANGER - STOP as quickly & safely as possible
BLACK w/YELLOW Mechanical Flag - Contact that flagman or track
STRIPE official immediately for explanation.
CHECKERED END of Race
ROLLED UP FLAG Obstruction ahead, use caution, OR Driver Warning
YELLOW SLOW DOWN and hold position
BLACK Pull into infield for one lap penalty or disqualified

B. Any car and driver failing to heed the black or mechanical flag for three consecutive laps will be penalized.

C. Under a red flag NO CAR MAY MOVE! Cars leaving the line-up may enter the pit area entrance only after a caution flag is displayed or as directed by a NASCAR official.  If you go to the pit area entrance you will sacrifice your line-up position.  Cars entering the pit area entrance will AUTOMATICALLY be placed at the back of the pack.

D. Stay in your car after an accident or breakdown on the track.  If you do not need medical assistance put your window net down.  This is a sign that you do not need medical assistance. This is a rule designed to help the tow trucks clear the track as quickly and safely as possible.

E. Heat races will be a minimum of 8 cars for 8 laps; exceptions may occur. The number of cars determine the number of laps.

F. Mains will not exceed 16 cars; exceptions may occur that may provoke changes.

G. Car on the pole sets the pace for the start of the race.

H. The number of cars taking the green flag will determine the status of the race.

I. All cars must complete lap one or a complete restart is in order.

J. All races are raced to the checkered flag.

K. All cars involved in the reason of the yellow/red will be placed at the back of the pack on a restart except for the first lap of the race.

L. You may not change racing lanes on an initial start until you pass the start finish line. You may move forward with your lane.


 

Rookies

A. Rookies must have an X on their car doors and trunk for three weeks minimum.

B. Rookie of the Year is awarded at the end of the season awards banquet, based on accumulated points.

C. A rookie is defined as someone who has competed in 3 or less races per class in any previous season.

Scoring

Scoring will be done by the AMB transponder system.  All cars must run a transponder.  Transponders may be purchased or rented from Evergreen Speedway.


Points

Points will be awarder on a progressive system. Meaning that last place car in the slowest main will be awarded 3 (three) points and will go up in intervals 3 (three) points per car to the First place car of the A main event. Heat races will use the same system but in 1 (one) point intervals. The WINNER from the previous week A main event in both classes will start at the back of the following weeks main event.

A. The first and second place winner of each main event has the option to move up to the next highest main event, but they forfeit points and monies for moving up.

B. All points go to the driver. Driver or representative must sign in at tech inspection.

C. If there is a driver change after a car is qualified then starting position will be forfeited.

D. If a car does not time in, it must run at the back of the slowest heat and main.

E. Any driver may request to move to the back of the pack.

F. Drivers may be required to move to the back of the pack if they are a rookie or a problem driver. This will be at the discretion of the race director
 

 
Mechanical Protest

A. Protests are to be made by the driver or owner only. All protests must be in writing, signed by the protesting party, and be accompanied by a protest bond of $250.00 cash. Protests shall be given to a Tech official within 30 minutes after the last competitive race event of the race meet. If the protest is valid, the bond will be returned to the protesting party. If the protest is not valid then $125.00 will go directly to the Speedway and $125.00 will go to the protested party

B. Protests must be specific and teardown will be for none other than that specified in the protest.

C. No more than 1 item may be protested at any one time.

D. Protests shall be ruled upon by the by NASCAR official. No appeals.

E. Teardowns shall be in a suitable place as stipulated by the NASCAR official.

F. Those present shall be no more than: Protested & NASCAR Officials

G. Protesters shall not be permitted to view teardowns, but will be shown protested parts or the protested part of the protested car.

H. In the event that a car is found to be illegal, appropriate penalties and/or fines shall be levied by NASCAR.

Numbers

A. Numbers to be issued by the Evergreen Speedway in accordance with the rules

B. All numbers except retired numbers will be available for renewal to participants who ran the number in the previous racing season, all numbers that were not run in the previous season will be on a first come first serve basis. ANY NUMBER NOT RUN BY THE 5th RACING WEEKEND OF THE 2008 SEASON WILL BE CONSIDERED AN OPEN NUMBER AND WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ANY COMPETITOR.
